Interactive Software ReviewEduweave offers evaluation reports on various types of interactive software intended for ‘edutainment’ and instructional purposes. What is interactive software?Interactive software is technology-based product designed to actively engage the user. The user can click or select a link to go to a different location, respond to questions presented on the screen, create art, music, movies and other kinds of content using digital tools or construct different kinds of environment based on a set of rules. In the ‘interactivity continuum’, a static website is the least interactive while gaming product is probably the most interactive. Many of these products are designed for a typical user and do not take into account the myriad learners with different abilities, learning styles, interests and experiences. What makes an interactive product well-designed?A well-designed product is not only easy to use and accessible to someone with a physical or learning difficulty; it provides customization options, leveled supports and timely feedback. In addition, the instructional design takes into account the learner’s background knowledge and socio-cultural context and draws the student in, with relevant examples and meaningful activities. |
